As part of the (re)connecting.earth Biennial (03), two screenings expanded on the exhibition’s themes by inviting the public to explore documentary perspectives on natural resources and their social, environmental, and economic implications.
At the Les Scala cinema, the screening of the documentary Outgrow the System sparked a discussion about contemporary economic models and possible alternatives in the face of ecological crises. The screening was followed by a discussion moderated by Mathieu Pochon, an environmental engineer, which allowed attendees to explore the issues raised by the film in greater depth.
A few days later, the Ciné Actuel in Annemasse hosted a screening of Florian Geyer’s Soufre . By following the daily life of a sulfur porter in an Indonesian mine, the film sheds light on the human realities of resource extraction. The director’s presence after the screening gave the audience an opportunity to discuss his work and the issues raised by the documentary.
