Breaking Patterns
Duchamp in the Garden is a programme of workshops and an exhibition for primary school children aged 8 to 12. Linked to the (re)connecting.earth project, the workshops take as their starting point instructional works aimed at (re)connecting to life. These artistic instructions, which have been specially designed for the project by Swiss and international artists, invite theoretical or practical interaction with nature in the city, activate creativity and lead, for example, to performative actions or to drawing.
Breaking Patterns demonstrates that the mediation of visual art can benefit from digital technology to break down geographical boundaries, integrate individuals who cannot physically visit an exhibition space, offer a participatory format and even propose a new medium for artistic creation. Besides providing an escape from one’s daily reality, these Zoom free workshops are an opportunity to address significant political issues, to create, to reflect together on future perspectives but also to offer a more personal and intimate approach to artistic practices and actors of contemporary art.
