Collective Action with Zheng Bo: Drawing Weeds Practice
The collective action based on the instruction "Drawing Weeds Practice" created by Zheng Bo for the exhibition took place in Berlin in the allotment gardens (together with the artist Zheng Bo) and in Geneva in the EcoQuartier Auberge des Vergers.
The participants were invited to walk in silence through the surroundings with their phones switched off and choose a plant that appeals to them. By drawing the plant, a connection was to be created. Afterwards, all the drawings were buried in the garden so that the microbes could break them down again.
This action is carried out daily by the artist Zheng Bo himself and is part of his ongoing series "Drawing Life", which is currently on display at the Gropius Bau Berlin. Making a drawing of a plant every day aims to get closer to these related beings, to change our relationship to the plant and to go beyond the conventions of drawing. The point here is not to "know how to draw" or to know the name of the plant, but to share a moment with this living being and share the sheet of paper that ends up composting back into the earth.
